2006 Christmas Concert in Blunham

•In Dulci Jubilo
•There is no Rose of such Virtue
–Medieval words that refer to Mary the mother of Jesus, found in a Cambridge manuscript around 1420
•People Look East (an Advent carol)
–Another early carol put to a French tune
•Lullay my Liking
–15th century words put to a tune by Gustav Holst
•Joy to the World
–Based on psalm 98, the words of Isaac Watts were combined with the tune by an American composer in the 19th century.
•The Song of the Birds
–Something a little different, this is a traditional Catalan carol (in English!)
•Little Road to Bethlehem
–This is by a 20th century English composer Michael head.  The words are by Margaret Rose, who could just be the late Princess Margaret.
•I Saw Three Ships
–Another traditional carol which has various versions.  Since Bethlehem  has no coastline this is an unusual idea of ships carrying the Holy Family, but it is probably a combination of several legends involving the Wise Men originally.
•How Soft upon the Evening Air
–This was written in the 1940s by Thomas Dunhill who did much of his work while working as a teacher at Eton.  It has a flavour of a certain radio theme of the time!
•A Somerset Carol
–We return to a more traditional carol for our last . . .
